2018 Ram ProMaster vs 2018 Ram ProMaster City

Serving Bend, Portland, and Redmond, OR

The 2018 Ram Promaster and Promaster City offer two ways to handle cargo. In both, the interiors are larger than you'd expect from the trim exteriors. There are more features to please the daily driver. A focus on drivability has been at the heart of their engineering and design. With so much to recommend either, it comes down to a few key differences.

Performance

Ram Promaster City vans have a smart 178-horsepower engine. Cranking out 174 lb.-ft. of torque, it can really move a load. In fact, it can handle 131 cu.ft. of cargo with a weight rating of 1,883 pounds. This best-in-class capability allows small businesses to move more with every trip. Best of all, it offers a best-in-class fuel economy of 28 mpg.

On both types of vans, front-wheel drive allows for a shorter hood. This gives drivers better visibility and also decreases the curb size. Drivers have tighter turn circles allowing them to maneuver in tighter spaces. Promaster vans come with a choice of engines. These hardworkers include a gas engine with 280 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of of torque and a four-cylinder turbo option. This diesel cranks out 295 lb.-ft. of torque while keeping fuel costs even lower. The top payload rating is 5,160 pounds.

Appearance

The streamlined look of these two vans is no accident. Ram engineers worked to make each one more aerodynamic. The final look is much more modern than the old squared-off vans. More handsome, they offer a professional look that is easily customized. Cabins are driver-friendly with comfortable, adjustable seats and more carlike features. The Promaster City comes with either a two-seat or five-seat cabin. The cargo area is 87 inches long, 60 inches wide, and 51 inches high. For 2018, the Promaster City has added a Uconnect five-inch touchscreen and backup camera.

For businesses that haul more, there are many sizes in the Ram Promaster family. The lengths are either 118 or 136 inches for the 1500 with two roof height options. 2500 models come in 136 or 159 inches with the high roof. The 3500 offers 159 inches with the high roof, but you can also order an extra long 250-inch body. These vans are also offered as passenger vans with seats for eight to fifteen people.

Safety

All Ram vans have six airbags, including dual front airbags and side curtains. Antilock disc brakes are responsive to driver's commands. Stability controls reduce the chances of sliding. Traction controls regulate braking to individual wheels for smoother travel and safer stops. Hill start assist prevents roll-back that could damage gears. Trailer sway control coordinates brake distribution among the trailer's wheels for safer towing.
